A remarkable and exceptionally rare pink platypus has been filmed swimming in a waterway in Victoria's Gippsland region, creating a wave of excitement among local residents and wildlife experts.

The unusual creature was captured on video by a member of the public near the town of Newry, in the state's south-east. The footage clearly shows the pink-hued monotreme foraging and diving in its natural habitat, a sight that has left biologists astounded. The platypus was observed on Monday, 22 December 2025.
