Tom Felton Reaches Out to New Draco Malfoy Actor in HBO Harry Potter Series
Tom Felton Contacts New Draco Malfoy Actor for HBO Potter

Tom Felton, the actor who famously portrayed Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, has extended a heartfelt gesture to the young performer set to take on the role in HBO's forthcoming television adaptation. Felton revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he "sent word" to Lox Pratt, a 14-year-old actor who will embody Potter's sly nemesis in the new show.

Felton's Supportive Message to His Successor

The 38-year-old star explained that he felt it was "really important" to reach out to Pratt as filming approaches. However, Felton deliberately avoided offering specific acting advice, emphasising that this journey belongs uniquely to the new cast. Instead, he provided his contact details and a lighthearted, encouraging message.

"The last thing I'm going to do is offer anything other than say, 'Here's my phone number. Here's my address,'" Felton stated during the podcast episode. "To his parents, as well as him, and to anyone else there: I can't offer you advice. This is your journey. Have as much fun as possible. Take as many pictures as you can. Steal as many props as you can. They'll be worth a fortune. But also, if you do need a word of encouragement or questions to ask, I'm there."

Felton's Ongoing Connection to the Wizarding World

Felton, who began filming the Harry Potter movies at age 13, maintains a strong tie to the franchise. He is currently performing as an older version of Draco Malfoy on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play that serves as a sequel set 19 years after the original series. His experience lends weight to his supportive stance toward the new generation.

Fans recently caught their first glimpse of Lox Pratt in character, as he appeared in Slytherin robes in the show's debut trailer. The series, scheduled for a Christmas premiere, will adapt each of J.K. Rowling's books into individual seasons, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Other Original Cast Members Extend Similar Gestures

Felton is not alone in reaching out to his successor in this controversial reboot. Daniel Radcliffe, who originated the role of Harry Potter in the films, disclosed in November that he sent a letter to Dominic McLaughlin, the actor playing Potter in the HBO series.

"I sent him a letter, and he sent me a very sweet note back," Radcliffe said on Good Morning America. "I do not want to be a specter in the lives of these children at all. I just wanted to write to him and say, 'I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did. I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better one.'"

Similarly, Rupert Grint, the original Ron Weasley, confirmed that he contacted Alastair Stout, who will portray Ron in the new adaptation. Grint told the BBC in November: "[The letter] was really just wishing him all the best with it. I had so much fun stepping into this world, and I hope he has the same experience."

This wave of support from the veteran actors highlights a collaborative spirit amid the high expectations surrounding the reboot. As production advances, the original stars' encouragement aims to foster a positive environment for the young cast stepping into these iconic roles.
