Freshly disclosed documents from the Jeffrey Epstein case have unveiled a series of email exchanges in which a correspondent, identified only as "A" and writing from Balmoral Castle, asked Ghislaine Maxwell to source "inappropriate friends". The individual's details strongly correspond to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew.
The 'Invisible Man' at Balmoral
Among the latest tranche of files are communications from 2001 and 2002 between Epstein's accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, and a contact listed as "The Invisible Man". In an August 2001 email, this person signs off as "A" and states they are "up here at Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family".
The message inquires: "How’s LA? Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?" The email also mentions exhausting days of activities and the need to give "the Girls" an early night. Crucially, the correspondence includes a reference to having recently left the "RN"—the Royal Navy. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor concluded his active Royal Navy service in July 2001.
Exchanges About 'Appropriate' and 'Inappropriate' Friends
A separate file reveals a follow-up where Maxwell apologised for having only found "appropriate" friends. The reply from "A" or The Invisible Man was a single, emphatic word: "Distraught!".
The communications extend into 2002, concerning arrangements for a trip to Peru. Maxwell forwarded correspondence from a third party, Juan Estoban Ganoza, who asked, "About the girls … how old is he?" In his reply, "A" expressed being "overwhelmed at the kindness and generosity of the offers" and added, "As for girls well I leave that entirely to you and Juan Estoban!"
Peru Trip and 'Two-Legged Sight Seeing'
In a March 2002 exchange, Maxwell forwarded a list of requests on "A's" behalf for the Peru visit. One line specified: "Some sight seeing some 2 legged sight seeing (read intelligent pretty fun and from good families) and he will be very happy."
Maxwell assured the recipient that she knew she could rely on them to show "a very English sounding gentleman" a wonderful time and to only introduce him to "friends that you can trust and rely on to be friendly and discreet and fun". Photographs from the period show Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on an official visit to Peru.
Buckingham Palace and representatives for Mountbatten-Windsor have been approached for comment. He has previously acknowledged his friendship with Maxwell but, in October, stated of claims regarding Epstein: "I vigorously deny the accusations against me." It is important to note that being mentioned in these files is not in itself evidence of any wrongdoing.
