Former American football star Matt Kalil has launched a legal battle against his ex-wife, alleging that her deeply personal and public remarks about the size of his manhood have led to a torrent of vile online abuse directed at his new spouse.
Viral Podcast Remarks Spark Legal Action
The dispute centres on comments made by Kalil's ex-wife, Haley, during a November appearance on an internet livestream. While discussing the reasons for the breakdown of their seven-year marriage, which began in 2015, she made intimate revelations about their private life. Haley graphically described Kalil's penis as being akin to 'two coke cans, maybe even a third', suggesting this was a significant factor in their eventual split in 2022, which was filed under 'irreconcilable differences'.
These remarks quickly went viral, drawing widespread attention. In response, the 36-year-old former Minnesota Vikings offensive lineman, who was a fourth-overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season, has now filed suit. The legal documents, obtained by TMZ, accuse Haley of creating 'invasive commentary' that has destroyed Kalil's attempts to maintain a private life post-retirement.
New Wife Targeted by 'Disturbing' Abuse
The lawsuit claims the fallout has been severe for Kalil's current wife, model Keilani Asmus, whom he married in the summer of 2024. It states that Asmus has been subjected to a 'barrage of disgusting messages' on social media, directly referencing Haley's crude comparison.
The suit includes screenshots of the alleged abuse sent to Asmus. One message read, 'Nah there's no way she can take 2 coke cans, sorry,' while another asked, 'Does it hurt to walk?' A third stated, 'He buried something deep in someone.' The legal filing argues these communications have become 'increasingly frequent, disturbing and alarming in nature over time.'
Kalil, who stood at 6-foot-6 and 315lbs during his NFL career with the Vikings, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans, contends that his entire family has 'been forced to endure the ongoing public circulation of these degrading and deeply personal statements.'
Lawsuit Alleges Financial Motive and Seeks Damages
Beyond the alleged invasion of privacy, the former athlete's lawsuit makes a further claim. It suggests that Haley has 'been able to financially benefit from this surge in traffic' generated by the viral episode, while he is left to manage the damaging consequences.
Kalil is suing for both invasion of privacy and unjust enrichment. He has requested a jury trial and is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 (£59,000).
When contacted by TMZ, Haley responded to the lawsuit, saying, 'Litigation is a harrowing and emotionally draining experience, and I am heartbroken that he is choosing to subject us and our families to this ordeal.' During the original podcast, she had maintained that Kalil was a 'really good person' but implied their physical compatibility was an insurmountable issue.
Since retiring after the 2019 season, Kalil has worked with his brother, fellow former NFL player Ryan Kalil, and launched a tequila company. This very public legal row now threatens to overshadow that post-football career.
