Bill Gates has issued a forceful denial of what he calls "absolutely absurd and completely false" allegations contained within a newly released email from the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The email, part of a vast trove of documents made public by the U.S. Department of Justice, has ignited a fresh wave of scrutiny around the connections between high-profile figures and Epstein's network.
Epstein's Email Makes Startling Claims
The document in question is a 2013 email that Epstein sent to himself, with the subject line simply "bill." In it, Epstein makes the explosive claim that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates engaged in extramarital sexual activity. Furthermore, the email alleges that Epstein himself facilitated what he termed "illicit trysts" for the billionaire philanthropist.
The correspondence also notes Epstein's resignation from positions linked to "BG3 and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation." This detail suggests a prior professional or advisory connection, however brief or informal it may have been.
Gates's Firm Rebuttal and Past Regret
A spokesperson for Bill Gates responded to the allegations with unequivocal condemnation. The statement characterised the claims as "absolutely absurd and completely false," and posited that the email may have been born from Epstein's frustration at no longer having an ongoing relationship with Gates or his charitable endeavours.
This is not the first time Gates has addressed his association with the disgraced financier. Back in 2021, he publicly stated that meeting with Epstein for the purpose of raising funds for global health initiatives was "a mistake," expressing regret over the interaction.
Massive Document Release Under New Law
The email featuring these claims against Gates was among more than 3 million documents released by the Department of Justice. This unprecedented disclosure was mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law which came into force in November, compelling federal authorities to make a vast array of records related to the Epstein case publicly available.
The release forms part of a continued effort to shed light on the full extent of Epstein's operations and his associations. It coincides with a statement from the Deputy Attorney General affirming that the Department of Justice did not afford any special protection to former President Donald Trump in relation to the Epstein case, as further redacted files were made public.
The emergence of this email ensures that the controversial legacy of Jeffrey Epstein and the questions surrounding his powerful contacts will remain a topic of intense public and media discourse for the foreseeable future.
