Gueye's Wife Packing House Sparks Everton Exit Rumours

Idrissa Gueye's future at Everton has taken a twist after his wife posted an update on social media, sparking speculation among the club's fans. The Senegalese star is out of contract this summer, and his future is up in the air, with less than a week to go before his current deal expires.

Social Media Post Fuels Rumours

The Everton veteran is away on international duty with Senegal at the World Cup, and the African nation faces Iraq on Friday, knowing only a win can extend their journey and also delay his Blues contract talks. In the meantime, his wife, Pauline, has been busy back home planning for the next steps in their life. It appears that the Gueyes are moving out of their current home after she posted that she had been 'packing'.

"I've been a bit absent from Instagram, but I'm busy packing," she wrote on her Instagram Stories in French. "Long days sorting!" The image showed multiple moving boxes stacked up, suggesting that the Gueyes are moving house and possibly leaving the area for good. It was enough to spark speculation among Everton supporters on social media, who quickly jumped to the conclusion that he might be leaving.

Contract Situation and Club Stance

With his contract expiring in under a week, that remains a possible scenario. Manager David Moyes is reportedly keen on signing a new midfielder this summer, with Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney a top target. However, the Blues have already announced their intention to negotiate an extension with the 36-year-old on June 10. Following the publishing of the club's retained list for the 2026/27 season, a statement read: “The club is continuing to liaise with representatives of Idrissa Gana Gueye over his future, with the midfielder’s existing deal expiring at the end of June.”

Gueye penned a one-year contract on July 7 last year with an option for a further year. But he only made 25 appearances during the 2025/26 season – he missed seven games while on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations – which was not enough to trigger the 12-month extension written into his contract.

World Cup Impact on Talks

The ECHO understands that talks have been put on hold while Gueye is involved in his World Cup matches. But if Senegal are unable to qualify from their group, an early exit could expedite those talks between the club and his agent. The Everton midfielder, who turns 37 in September, has started both of Senegal’s matches at this summer’s tournament. But they are staring down the barrel of a disappointing early exit following back-to-back defeats in North America.

In their Group D opener, Senegal lost 3-1 to France with Gueye playing 88 minutes. He then turned out for the whole 90 minutes of their 3-2 defeat to Norway in the early hours of Tuesday. Having first arrived from Aston Villa a decade ago, Gueye has made 236 appearances in total for the Blues across two spells and has scored 10 goals.
