Manchester United are looking to sign two teenage prospects from Manchester City's academy, according to reports. The Red Devils are targeting 16-year-old midfielders Xavier Parker and Karim Cassim as part of a summer of significant investment following an encouraging second half of last season under manager Michael Carrick.
Champions League return fuels spending
United's third-placed finish in the Premier League secured a return to Champions League football, and the club is seeking both added quality and squad depth. A deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson has already been agreed, but further arrivals in midfield and defence are expected.
However, the club is also focusing on the future and attempting to bring in prospects who could make an impact in years to come. The Daily Mail reports that both Parker and Cassim are on United's radar, with the club 'attempting to raid' their city rivals for the teenagers.
Who are the targets?
Xavier Parker is a 16-year-old midfielder who joined City from West Ham in 2024. Described by his club as a 'dynamic, attack-minded' midfielder, he stepped up to the Under-18 squad last season despite only turning 16 in May. He has been capped by England at Under-16 level, and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in him.
Karim Cassim, also 16, plays in central midfield and has represented England at youth level. Both players are seen as promising talents with the potential to develop into first-team players.
Academy changes at City
The potential departures come amid changes at Manchester City's academy level. Elite Development Squad head coach Ben Wilkinson has left to join Derby County. Wilkinson was praised for helping youth talents transition to the first team, most notably Nico O'Reilly. Under-18s manager Oliver Reiss is stepping into Wilkinson's role, while Lauris Coggin takes over the Under-18s.
