Prince Harry's UK Visit Forces King Charles Into 'Delicate Balancing Act' Over Feud
Prince Harry UK Visit Forces King Charles Into Delicate Act

Prince Harry is expected to travel to the UK in early July with Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for an Invictus Games event, potentially meeting his father King Charles. However, royal expert Jennie Bond warns this could force the King into a "delicate balancing act" due to the ongoing rift between Harry and his brother Prince William.

Expert Warns of Strained Family Dynamics

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror: "It is, though, going to be a delicate balancing act for the King. If he makes peace with his youngest son, his loyal and steadfast older son will have his nose royally put out of joint." Bond emphasized that there is "absolutely no sign of any thaw in the brotherly feud," though she noted that things could change if William eventually agrees with Harry that "there's no point in continuing to fight any more."

Trust remains a major obstacle. Bond stated: "A massive issue is trust. Both Harry and Meghan have squandered the trust of senior members of the royal family. His book and their Netflix documentary series invaded the privacy of the King, the Queen and William and Catherine." She added that the Sussexes are still "on very shaky ground when it comes to trust."

Harry's Desire for Reconciliation

Despite the tensions, Harry has publicly expressed a wish to reconcile with his family. Bond noted: "It has finally dawned on him that 'life is precious'. And I'm sure he must understand that he needs to win back his family's trust by keeping private matters private."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to attend the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham on Friday, July 10. Harry will be joined on stage by Meghan during the event. The Invictus Games, a sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans, will be held in Birmingham from July 10-17, 2025.

King Charles's Potential Meeting

Sources have indicated that the King is likely to meet Harry, Meghan, and the children if a request is made. Archie and Lilibet last saw their grandfather in person during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, when Lilibet was just one year old. Meghan has not been in the UK since the late Queen's funeral, aside from airport transfers.

Bond emphasized the emotional stakes: "As Charles nudges towards 80, it is undoubtedly the most enormous sadness for him not to know his two youngest grandchildren. And if there is one thing that should melt hearts and build bridges between warring relatives, it is little, innocent children. So, if Harry, Meghan and the children do come and the King finds some excuse not to meet them, it's game over. The rift will surely be permanent."

Harry and Meghan's spokesperson has not yet commented on the visit.
