UK travel firm collapses, cancels bookings from September 1

Groupia Ltd, a prominent UK group holiday agency, has entered administration after 24 years of trading, leaving customers with bookings from September 1 facing cancellations. The Bath-based firm, which operated under brands including Groupia Golf, GoHen, StagWeb, Groupia School Trips, and Company Away Day, served over 750,000 holidaymakers since its launch in 2002.

Administration and Immediate Impact

The company announced its entry into administration on June 16, 2026. Nigel Fox and Christopher Marsden of S&W Partners LLP have been appointed as Joint Administrators. According to a notice on Groupia's website, the company has ceased taking new bookings, and arrangements are in place with ABTOT (Association of Bonded Travel Organised Trust) to support customers with existing bookings.

Customers with trips scheduled before August 31 are unaffected, as these will proceed as planned. ABTOT, a UK government-approved body, provides financial protection for package holidays, ensuring money is safe. These customers can manage their reservations using Groupia's existing VIP booking system.

Cancellations from September 1

All holidays and events booked from September 1 onward will be cancelled. The company stated: 'Your event will unfortunately be cancelled and is subject to a refund claim.' Refund eligibility depends on the payment method; customers are advised to visit Groupia's website for detailed instructions.

Groupia specialized in stag and hen weekends, golf trips, spa breaks, team tours, ski holidays, and adventure trips, sending travellers to popular European destinations such as Barcelona, Prague, and Split.

Reasons for Collapse

While Groupia did not specify reasons for entering administration, many UK travel firms are struggling amid soaring jet fuel prices, delays, and industry flux. Groupia follows other companies like Regen Central Ltd and Gold Crest Holidays that have also closed.

It remains unclear whether the company will seek a buyer or cease to exist entirely. The administrators are expected to provide further updates.
