Kate Middleton Completes Three Peaks, Urges Cancer Support

The Princess of Wales completed the National Three Peaks Challenge on Snowdon, raising money for the Royal Marsden Hospital where she was treated for cancer. After scaling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours, she delivered a heartfelt message to others facing cancer: 'You are not alone.'

Challenge Details and Fundraising

Kate Middleton, 44, climbed Ben Nevis (1,345m), Scafell Pike (978m), and Snowdon (1,085m) over 23 miles of trekking with a total ascent of 3,064 metres. The journey also involved 462 miles of road travel between the peaks. Kensington Palace confirmed she is believed to be the first royal family member to complete the challenge.

The Princess launched a fundraising page in partnership with the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, with all donations supporting holistic care at the London hospital. Dame Cally Palmer of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust expressed gratitude: 'We are immensely grateful for this generous support that will make a difference to the lives of so many cancer patients and their families.'

Personal Journey and Message

Diagnosed with cancer in March 2024, Kate underwent chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden. In a video before the challenge, she said: 'Lots of people have asked me why I'm doing this challenge, and partly – it's personal. I'm so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills. But, more importantly, it's to give something back.'

Speaking at the summit of Snowdon, known as Yr Wyddfa, she stated: 'Together, we can stand alongside everyone navigating life with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease feeling unseen or unsupported. Cancer doesn't just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this personally.'

Holistic Cancer Care Focus

Kate emphasized the importance of holistic healthcare: 'Every individual is different, and ensuring a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis. Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients' ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience and quality of life.'

She added: 'Healing, whether personal or collective, is not just about fixing what is wrong. It is about finding balance in how we live. Between effort and acceptance, between control and trust, between thinking and simply being.'

Family Support at the Finish

Kate was greeted at the base of Snowdon by Prince William, their three children, her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother James. A photograph at the misty summit showed her wearing her sapphire and diamond engagement ring, which belonged to William's late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
