Major Toy Recall Over Asbestos Contamination at Leading Retailers
An urgent recall has been issued for a range of popular children's toys sold at major retailers including Tesco, Marks and Spencer, and Amazon. The products, which may contain asbestos, pose a serious health risk to children, prompting immediate action from safety authorities.
Widespread Retailer Involvement in Safety Alert
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has flagged multiple toys from brands such as HTI Toys Stretcherz and Addo Play Limited. These items have been withdrawn from sale and recalled from customers across stores like Smyths, The Entertainer, Asda, Aldi, Argos, TK Maxx, and The Works. Asbestos, a banned substance, can cause health issues even at low levels, necessitating swift disposal and refund requests.
Detailed List of Recalled Products
Affected toys include various Stretcherz models, such as the Stretch Squad XXL and Slammerz packs, with specific barcodes and product codes provided for identification. Additionally, sand art kits from Colour Day and Out To Impress Sand Art Creations have been recalled. These craft toys, sold on platforms like Amazon and eBay, contain coloured sand that may be contaminated.
Health and Safety Instructions for Consumers
The OPSS urges anyone with these toys to stop use immediately. For unused sand, seal it in double-bagged plastic with clear labeling and store securely. If sand has been used, clean areas with wet cloths while wearing gloves and a mask to avoid dust. Dispose of all materials in household waste and seek refunds from retailers.
This recall highlights critical gaps in product safety testing, with sales periods spanning from 2023 to 2026. Parents and caregivers are advised to check their homes for these items and follow official guidelines to protect children's health.
