Lloyds Bank has issued clarification after a customer complained about receiving multiple emails regarding their credit score. The customer, who described their credit score as “excellent,” questioned the purpose of the messages, stating they were “getting quite tiresome” and asking whether the bank wanted them to “spend more money or something.”
Bank Explains Email Purpose
In response, Lloyds Bank explained that the emails are designed to keep customers informed about their credit health and to flag any unusual activity, rather than to encourage additional spending. The bank stated: “Those emails are meant to keep you informed about your credit health and flag anything unusual, rather than encourage extra spending.”
Lloyds also reassured the customer that a good credit score can help them access better rates when they need credit, but there is no expectation to take out any products. Further guidance on credit scores is available on the Lloyds Bank website.
Credit Score Benefits
The bank’s information page notes: “When you apply for credit, lenders and service providers check your credit record as part of their decision-making process. Depending on the type of borrowing, if you have a good credit score, you're more likely to be offered better interest rates and higher credit limits.”
This follows a separate initiative by Lloyds Banking Group, which placed signs in Lloyds Bank branches, including one in Devizes, informing Halifax customers that they can use Lloyds branches to manage their Halifax accounts. The sign read: “Hello Halifax customers? Did you know? You can use Lloyds branches to manage your Halifax account. Speak to us today.”
Cross-Brand Branch Access
Both Lloyds Bank and Halifax are part of Lloyds Banking Group, along with Bank of Scotland. A spokesperson for the group said: “We're always looking for ways to make banking easier and more flexible for our customers. So last year we offered Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers the option to use branches of any brand for their in-person banking, alongside our apps, mobile messaging, and telephone services.”
Customers can visit the Lloyds Bank website to find out what local banking facilities are available in their area.
