Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice Recalled Over Glass Contamination Concerns
A major food safety alert has been issued as a Portland, Oregon, company initiates a recall of nearly 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products. These items were distributed to Trader Joe's stores across the United States and in Canada, with officials warning they may contain pieces of glass.
Details of the Recall
The recall was announced by Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc., which has pulled Trader Joe's Chicken Fried Rice from shelves nationwide. The affected product is packaged in 20-ounce plastic bags and includes ingredients such as fried rice, vegetables, chicken meat, and eggs. Packages with best-by dates ranging from September 8 to November 17, 2026, are involved in this recall.
Identification marks: Consumers can identify the recalled items by looking for the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging.
Additional Products Affected
In a related action, the company has also recalled cardboard packages containing six bags of frozen Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Rice. These products, with best-by dates from September 9 to November 12, 2026, were sold exclusively in Canada and are subject to the same safety concerns.
Discovery and Safety Measures
The contamination issue came to light after four consumers reported finding glass in the products. Fortunately, no injuries have been linked to the recall at this time. Authorities are urging consumers to avoid consuming these items and to either dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.
This recall underscores the importance of vigilance in food safety protocols and highlights the swift response by regulatory bodies to protect public health.
