TUI Clarifies Strict Baggage Rule After Passenger Query

TUI has clarified its strict baggage rules after a holidaymaker sought clarification on social media. The passenger, Savhanna, posted on the TUI UK Official Customer Service Help & Advice Facebook page, asking: "If a suitcase weighs 15kg can the other weigh 25kg? I know that 25kg is max weight. The limit per person is 20kg. Or does it not work like that?"

Fellow travellers quickly responded. Johanna explained: "Yes you can pool your luggage as long as you’re on the same booking." Dina added: "Yes, as long as none weigh over 25kg." Another user, Fannie, inquired whether the same rule applied to those with a 30kg allowance, asking: "If you have 60kg between two of you. Do you have to split between three cases?" Steve confirmed: "Max per case 25kg. So three cases for 60kg @ 20kg each."

A TUI representative, Heul, also addressed the query, stating: "If you're travelling on a TUI Airways flight, then you'll be able to pool your luggage allowance with anyone else travelling on your booking. But, each bag can only weigh up to 25kg."

TUI's Standard Baggage Allowance

According to TUI's website, passengers flying with the holiday firm receive 20kg of checked luggage per person. This increases to 25kg for those booking specific trips, such as a TUI River Cruise or a Holiday Village holiday. Each passenger, excluding infants, can also take one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10kg, with dimensions not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.

Pooling and Additional Rules

TUI confirmed that passengers can pool their luggage allowance with others on the same booking. However, in addition to the 25kg per bag limit, each person can take a maximum of three pieces of checked luggage. A small personal item or laptop, with maximum dimensions of 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, may also be brought onboard, but it must be stored under the seat in front.

Advice for Excess Luggage

TUI offers advice for those with luggage exceeding the allowance: "During the booking process, if you’re on a package holiday you've got the option of increasing your allowance and, if you’re booking just a flight, you can add luggage. If you don’t add on at the time of booking, there’s still time to do so before you fly. And just so you know, if you wait until you get to the airport, it’ll cost you more. If you’re not flying with TUI Airways, you’ll need to check with your airline."
