Fast food giant White Castle has initiated a significant product recall affecting thousands of its popular frozen sliders, following a customer report of an allergic reaction. The recall centres on undeclared allergens, specifically milk and soy, which pose a serious risk to consumers with allergies or severe sensitivities.
Details of the Frozen Slider Recall
The company's frozen foods division is recalling 1,021 cases of its 4-count cartons of Original Sliders. The action was prompted after a customer experienced a non-life-threatening allergic reaction. The issue arose from a packaging error, where Jalapeño Cheese Sliders, which contain milk and soy, were mistakenly placed in boxes labelled as the dairy-free Original Sliders.
According to a report published by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday, the affected products were shipped to retailers between August and October of this year. They were primarily sold in convenience stores across all 50 states in America.
How to Identify the Recalled Products
Consumers are urged to check their freezers immediately. The recalled sliders can be identified by the following markers:
- UPC Number: 0-82988-02969-3
- Lot Codes: 9H203521 and 9H203522
- Best-By Date: April 18, 2026
No further illnesses have been reported beyond the initial complaint. However, the FDA and White Castle warn that for individuals allergic to milk or soy, consumption could lead to serious or life-threatening allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Customers who have purchased the affected products should not consume them. White Castle advises returning the sliders to the place of purchase for a full refund. For any concerns or further questions, consumers can contact White Castle directly at 1-800-843-2728.
This incident highlights the critical importance of accurate food labelling. In the United States, milk and soy are classified among the nine major food allergens, a list that also includes wheat, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame.
The White Castle recall is part of a wider trend of food safety actions this year related to undeclared allergens. Earlier in December, Aldi recalled certain Choceur Holiday Bark products due to a similar packaging mix-up that could have exposed consumers to undeclared pecans and wheat.
