Doctor Reveals Breakfast for Weight Loss Every Day

Dr Rangan Chatterjee, known for BBC's Doctor in the House and as a regular on BBC Breakfast, has shared his daily breakfast habit that helps him lose weight. He advocates eating dinner foods in the morning, emphasizing protein to keep hunger at bay.

Why Protein at Breakfast Matters

Speaking on the Doctor’s Kitchen podcast, Dr Chatterjee explained that incorporating protein into breakfast is crucial for weight management. He criticized the conditioning that leads people to consume ultra-processed cereals, pointing to marketing by cereal companies as the origin of this habit.

He recalled visiting India as a child: "I can still remember my cousins before they went to school, they'd have big plates with meats, vegetable curries, dal, rice—it was like a proper meal." He noted that after about ten years, cereal advertisements had taken over.

Eat Dinner for Breakfast

Dr Chatterjee advised patients: "Eat dinner for breakfast." Podcast host Dr Rupi Aujla agreed, saying she does this regularly. Dr Aujla added, "Protein at breakfast is a great strategy to ensure that you're not overconsuming and improve weight maintenance."

Avoid Temptation at Home

Dr Chatterjee also emphasized not keeping unhealthy foods at home. "I genuinely do not bring food into my house that I don't want to be consuming. Sweets, chocolates, cakes, I don't keep them at home." He compared this to an alcoholic avoiding alcohol during recovery, suggesting that removing ultra-processed foods can help reset taste buds.
