Jack Butland has confirmed he is leaving Rangers after three years at Ibrox, with a £3million switch to an English Premier League club imminent. The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the Light Blues on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2023, made 155 appearances in all competitions and won the Premier Sports Cup in December 2023.
Emotional Farewell to Fans
In an emotional address on Instagram, Butland wrote: "Three years ago I made a decision to join this great football club, with no hesitation and I'm so glad that I did. While it's been a rollercoaster, I've always tried to represent the club in the best way I can, both on and off the pitch and I leave with great pride knowing that I truly gave the fans, the club and my teammates my all."
He added: "To the fans that followed us everywhere, you are what makes this club so great. We created memories and atmospheres all over Europe and the sound of Ibrox in full voice will stay with me forever. This is only goodbye for now. You've created a family of lifelong Rangers fans, once a Ranger, always a Ranger, me and my family will always be that. Thank you."
Transfer Details
Butland's departure comes as newly-promoted English Premier League side Hull City, managed by Derek McInnes, have agreed a £3million fee for the England international. The move follows Hull's £6million deal for Rangers' Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, who will head in the opposite direction. Butland's only winner's medal at Rangers came in the 2023 Premier Sports Cup final, where they beat Aberdeen 1-0.
