A proposal for a new church in Birkenhead has been submitted to Wirral Council, part of a wave of planning developments across the borough. The application, made on behalf of the Diocese of Chester, seeks a change of use for Units 14 and 15 at Tower Quays, situated in the heart of the Birkenhead waterfront regeneration area. According to planning documents, the growing residential population in the vicinity makes the location ideal for a place of worship.
Industrial Units Approved in Bromborough
Wirral Council has given the green light for two new industrial units in Bromborough, to be housed within a single large building on vacant land off Riverbank Road. The larger unit is earmarked for Star International, a company specializing in safety solutions for the marine and offshore sectors. The firm stated it has outgrown its current site in Birkenhead, necessitating the move.
Green Belt Homes Refused in Caldy
An application to build two homes on Montgomery Hill in Caldy has been refused by the council. Although the proposal argued that the land next to Odd Acre offered an "opportunity for infill residential development," the council's planning team determined that constructing two homes would constitute "inappropriate development within the green belt."
Grade-II Listed Building Repairs Proposed
Plans to remove "failing" paint from the exterior of Royal Oak Chambers, a Grade-II listed building on Village Road in Bebington, have been submitted. The planning documents claim the building's appearance has become "increasingly compromised due to discolouration, damp staining, and paint failure, particularly after rainfall." Access to the offices inside will remain uninterrupted during the work, according to the submission.
Glegg Arms Demolition Plans Resurface
Fresh plans have been submitted to demolish the Glegg Arms pub in Heswall. The former Beefeater pub on Chester Road closed in 2024, with its restaurant facilities moving to the adjacent Premier Inn hotel. The new proposal seeks to demolish the pub to facilitate an expansion of the hotel from 87 to 111 rooms.
