Aldi has announced a limited-time price of 99p for its Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (227g), running from June 29 until the end of Wimbledon on July 12. The supermarket expects to sell five million punnets during the fortnight.
Price Comparison and Savings
The 99p punnet is 55% cheaper than M&S, where similar strawberries cost £2.20, according to Aldi. Other strawberry options include Everyday Essentials Wonky Strawberries (227g) at £1.19, Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (400g) at £1.99, Nature’s Pick British Strawberries (600g) at £2.79, and Specially Selected British Grown Strawberries (400g) at £2.85.
Wimbledon Tradition and Sales
Strawberries and cream have been a Wimbledon tradition for over 100 years, dating back to the Victorian era when strawberries were only available seasonally in June and July. Aldi sold nearly 1,700 tonnes of British strawberries during Wimbledon last year, equivalent to around 4.5 million punnets. The supermarket is also offering free strawberries to shoppers at its Wimbledon store from June 29 to July 3.
