Pink Stuff multi-purpose cleaning spray from Home Bargains outperformed Elbow Grease All Purpose Degreaser in a head-to-head test on a neglected kitchen sink, delivering instant, streak-free results that lasted longer, according to a review by Nicola Roy.
Testing Two Budget Sprays
Nicola Roy, a Spare Time writer, tested two budget cleaning sprays from Home Bargains to see which removed stains, watermarks, and grime best. She chose the Pink Stuff multi-purpose cleaning spray at 99p and the Elbow Grease All Purpose Degreaser at £1.19. Both were applied to different parts of the same sink: Elbow Grease on the sink basin and tap, and Pink Stuff on the draining board.
Elbow Grease: Mixed Results
Elbow Grease, marketed as a degreaser and 'the only cleaner you'll ever need', was used on the stainless steel sink and tap. After spraying and wiping, watermarks disappeared and the sink shone. However, within 15 minutes, some marks resurfaced, and the sink remained grubby. A second application, as recommended on the packaging for stubborn marks, removed most stains. The tap, however, gleamed after a single application.
Pink Stuff: Instant and Lasting Shine
Pink Stuff spray, previously used as a paste on a hob, was tested on the draining board. The bottle claims it is 'tough on stains, penetrates and removes grease and grime, leaving shiny clean results'. After spraying, waiting a few seconds, and wiping with a damp then dry cloth, stains lifted instantly with minimal effort. The draining board appeared shinier after buffing and retained its streak-free shine after 15 minutes, unlike the Elbow Grease area.
Winner and Recommendation
Roy declared Pink Stuff the winner, noting it was both more effective and cheaper at 99p compared to Elbow Grease at £1.19. She recommended Pink Stuff for an immaculately clean sink, citing its instant results, pleasant fragrance, and lasting finish.
