Savers Health and Beauty Issues Urgent Recall of Rihanna Perfumes Due to Chemical Hazard

Savers Health and Beauty has initiated an urgent product recall for three celebrity fragrances after discovering they contain chemicals banned under UK regulations. The retailer confirmed this week that the affected products are Rihanna perfumes, specifically the 'Rhianna 15ml' variants named Kiss, Riri, and Rogue.

According to reports from the Express, the recall was prompted by the presence of prohibited ingredients in these fragrances. The UK Government's Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued a hazard statement warning that the products pose a serious chemical risk.

Prohibited Chemicals and Health Risks

The OPSS identified the banned substances as butylphenyl methylpropional (BMHCA/lilial) and/or hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde. Both chemicals are strictly prohibited in cosmetic products within the UK.

BMHCA is particularly concerning as it may harm the reproductive system, potentially affect the health of an unborn child, and cause skin sensitisation. The products fail to comply with Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, commonly known as the Cosmetics Regulation, which sets safety standards for cosmetics across the European Union and is upheld in the UK.

Affected Products and Batch Codes

The recall specifically targets perfumes with the following batch numbers, which were sold exclusively at Savers Health and Beauty stores:

  • Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP - 0608940572252
  • Rihanna Riri 15ml EDP - 0608940560389
  • Rihanna Rogue 15ml EDP - 0608940559437

Only items purchased from Savers bearing these barcodes are included in the recall notice. Shoppers who have bought any of these products are strongly urged to return them to the original store of purchase for a full refund.

Customer Guidance and Apology

Savers has advised customers who are uncertain whether their item is affected to seek assistance from in-store staff for further details. In a statement posted on its website, the retailer expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the recall.

The company stated: 'Savers would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.' For additional information, customers can contact Savers Health and Beauty via email at help@savers.co.uk or visit the Product Recalls section on the Savers website.

This recall highlights ongoing concerns about chemical safety in consumer products and underscores the importance of regulatory compliance in the retail sector. Consumers are reminded to stay informed about product recalls to ensure their safety and well-being.
