Manchester City's midfield rebuild continues with a £116m agreement for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, but the club faces ongoing uncertainty over Rodri's future. The deal, confirmed on Thursday evening, is a flat fee despite earlier reports of potential add-ons, according to MEN Sport.
Anderson Arrival and Silva Departure
Anderson's arrival comes after Bernardo Silva's departure this summer, marking a significant change in City's midfield. The 24-year-old Anderson is expected to bolster the squad, but further moves may be necessary.
Rodri's Future in Doubt
Rodri, a key figure for City, has long been admired by Real Madrid. When asked about his future before the World Cup, he said: “I understand there might be some noise, but for me I’m obviously going to focus on the World Cup. I’m not going to dedicate my time to that, and then after the World Cup let’s see.” His comments have done little to quell speculation.
Other Midfielders' Uncertainties
Nico Gonzalez had a frustrating campaign last season, while Tijjani Reijnders failed to build on his strong start. Mateo Kovacic also struggled with injuries, leaving the futures of all three players unclear. This uncertainty forces City to keep their options open.
Potential Targets: Tonali and Bouaddi
City are monitoring Sandro Tonali of Newcastle and Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille as potential reinforcements. Both players are seen as capable of adding depth and quality to the midfield.
