Four big-money targets eye Old Trafford moves
Manchester United are on the verge of a busy summer transfer window, with four high-profile players worth a combined £255 million reportedly keen on joining the club. According to MEN Sport, the quartet—Lewis Hall, Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville, and Lucas Bergvall—have all indicated their desire to move to Old Trafford amid unrest at their current clubs.
The potential influx comes on top of the expected £39 million arrival of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is already set to join Michael Carrick's squad. United's transfer activity could accelerate in the coming weeks if the club shows the necessary motivation to secure these targets.
Lewis Hall: £80 million left-back solution
Lewis Hall, the 21-year-old former Chelsea prospect now at Newcastle United, is reportedly keen on a move to Manchester United after falling out with manager Eddie Howe, according to The Sun. Hall is seen as a long-term solution at left-back, with current incumbent Luke Shaw, 30, entering the final year of his contract and facing uncertainty over an extension due to persistent injury issues. Hall is said to be attracted by the prospect of Champions League football, and his estimated £80 million price tag reflects his potential as the 'second coming of Shaw'.
United have struggled to find consistency at left-back, with Tyrell Malacia failing to impress and Patrick Dorgu being shifted to a more advanced wing role where he has thrived. Hall's arrival would address a long-standing gap in the squad, though the investment would be significant.
Mateus Fernandes: £80 million midfield target
Mateus Fernandes, valued at £80 million, is arguably West Ham's most valuable asset following the Hammers' relegation. The midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms with United, though the club is hesitant to meet his valuation. Fernandes, also a target for Tottenham, is seen as a key addition to United's midfield alongside Ederson. The message from West Ham is clear: certain stars are available for the right price, and Fernandes has the quality to compete in the Champions League.
Crysencio Summerville: £50 million winger
Another West Ham player destined to leave this summer is Crysencio Summerville, valued at £50 million. The Dutch winger has impressed at the World Cup, scoring in the Netherlands' first two matches in North America, which has only increased his value. Like Fernandes, Summerville's departure is seen as a matter of when, not if, with Tottenham also reported to be interested. Summerville doubled his price tag during an encouraging season for West Ham despite their relegation to the Championship.
Lucas Bergvall: £45 million midfield prospect
Lucas Bergvall, a 20-year-old Swedish midfielder currently at Tottenham, is considering his future at the club and could be ready for a new challenge. Bergvall, who is away with Sweden at the World Cup, has long-standing links with United after two unsuccessful trials during his teenage years at Brommapojkarna. He also trialled with Bayern Munich and Juventus before joining Tottenham in 2024. Valued at £45 million—five times what Spurs paid for him just two years ago—Bergvall could be tempted to move if United show interest. Tottenham may be open to selling given the significant profit.
These four moves, if completed, would represent a major overhaul for United, addressing key positions in defence, midfield, and attack. The total outlay of £255 million, plus the £39 million for Ederson, would make this one of the most expensive transfer windows in the club's history.
