A new series of e-bike tours in Herefordshire offers food lovers a chance to explore the county's agricultural landscape and sample local produce at source. The White Heron Estate has curated routes that link farm shops, cider-makers, cheese producers and farm-to-fork restaurants, providing an immersive experience of British farming in action.
Participants pedal along pastoral routes through orchards, vineyards and fields, with stops for tastings of cheeses, charcuterie, fruits and wines. A highlight is the off-grid feast at the estate, featuring produce sourced from within a few miles, including sparkling wine and cassis made on site.
Guided by Jo Hilditch, who inherited the estate 30 years ago, the tours offer insights into sustainable farming practices. The estate supplies 5% of Ribena's blackcurrants, and visitors can taste the fruit straight from the fields.
Self-guided routes are also available, such as a 29-mile ride through north Herefordshire. Cyclists pass through picturesque villages like Pembridge and Eardisland, and can stop at Monkland Dairy, where cheesemaker Dean Storey produces Little Hereford and creamy blue monks using traditional methods.
