A major fire broke out at a Jaguar Land Rover service centre in Tottenham, north London, on Thursday night, drawing around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines to the scene. The blaze erupted at an industrial estate on Watermead Way, with the London Fire Brigade receiving the first of over 20 emergency calls at 10.51pm.
Firefighters Battle Through the Night
The fire, which sent towering columns of smoke and huge flames into the night sky, remained active at 2.15am on Friday, according to an update from the London Fire Brigade. The two-storey warehouse and part of an adjoining building were still alight. Crews from Edmonton, Enfield, Tottenham, Chingford, Walthamstow, and surrounding fire stations were deployed to tackle the blaze.
Three 32-metre turntable ladders from Tottenham and Soho fire stations were also sent to assist, deployed as water towers to extinguish the fire from above.
Public Advised to Keep Windows Closed
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: 'Firefighters are working extremely hard to bring this fire under control. The amount of smoke being produced by this fire has been significant, and though the level of smoke has greatly reduced since our arrival, we advise people, particularly within the Haringey borough area, to continue to keep their windows and doors closed at this time.'
The spokesperson added: 'We expect firefighters will be on scene through the night and into the morning working to fully extinguish the fire.'
Road Closures and Disruption Expected
Road closures are in place on Watermead Way at the junction of Leeside Road, and motorists are anticipated to face disruption during the morning rush hour. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
