British tourists in Magaluf, Palmanova, and other parts of Calvia will enjoy extended pub and restaurant hours during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, thanks to special measures introduced by local authorities. The Calvia Town Hall has granted permission for venues to stay open later than usual for selected games, allowing football fans to watch matches without interruption.
New Rules for Extended Hours
Under the new regulations, bars and restaurants can remain open up to 15 minutes after a match concludes, provided the kick-off occurs during their normal operating hours. This initiative aims to enhance the viewing experience for visitors while balancing the needs of local residents by minimizing noise and disruption.
Matches Covered
The exemption applies to games involving England, Scotland, Spain, and Germany, as well as the semi-finals, third-place play-off, and the World Cup final. The measures follow a similar approach used during Euro 2024, which local authorities deemed successful.
Noise Control Measures
To ensure a fair balance, venues must switch off outdoor sound systems after midnight, though they may continue broadcasting matches indoors or via low-noise setups. This policy aims to maintain excitement for football fans while respecting the comfort of local residents.
World Cup Schedule
The World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19. England plays its first match on June 17 against Croatia, followed by Ghana on June 23 and Panama on June 27. Scotland faces Haiti on June 14, Morocco on June 19, and Brazil on June 24. Popular tourist destinations like Magaluf and Palmanova are preparing for large crowds, with many venues organizing special screenings to accommodate the influx of visitors.
