Mersey Ferries River Explorer Cruises Suspended Due to Technical Issues
Mersey Ferries Suspended Over Technical Issues

Mersey Ferries have suspended their River Explorer Cruises 'until further notice' due to technical issues, according to a statement on their website and social media. The 50-minute cruises, popular with tourists and featuring recorded commentary on the history of the Mersey Ferries and Merseyside, are currently not operating.

Suspension Details

A message appeared on the Mersey Ferries website just before 9am on Thursday 25 June, stating: 'Thursday June 25: River Explorer Cruises are currently suspended until further notice. Updates to follow.' A subsequent post on the Mersey Ferries X account elaborated: 'Due to technical issues, the River Explorer Cruise is not operating at present. Services are suspended until further notice. We're sorry for the disruption and will share updates as soon as possible.'

Wider Disruption Across Merseyside

The suspension coincides with an amber weather warning for extreme heat across Merseyside. The UK is experiencing a significant heatwave, with some regions recording some of the highest June temperatures on record. The Met Office has issued an amber heat warning for Thursday, with temperatures expected to reach around 33°C before easing slightly on Friday.

Network Rail has implemented speed restrictions on the Headbolt Lane line due to the high temperatures, with services running every 30 minutes from start to end of service from Tuesday until Friday.

School Closures and Adaptations

Schools across Merseyside have adapted their routines earlier this week. Some schools have allowed students to wear PE kits, while others permitted leaving blazers or jumpers at home. However, some Liverpool schools and nurseries have announced early closures today, with temperatures potentially reaching the mid-30s and 'extreme heat' expected this afternoon.

Mersey Ferries have apologised for the disruption and promised to share updates as soon as possible. Passengers are advised to check the Mersey Ferries website and social media for further information.
