A search and rescue operation is underway after a K2 Airways cargo plane carrying five crew members disappeared over the Arabian Sea off the coast of Pakistan. The Boeing 737, operating as flight KTA1732, vanished from radar on the evening of July 7, 2026, while en route from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Karachi, Pakistan.
Rapid Altitude Changes Precede Disappearance
According to flight tracking website Flightradar24, the aircraft experienced a rapid descent, then climbed again before a second 'dramatic' loss of altitude. The last radar ping from the plane was recorded at 16:21 UTC. The aircraft was also experiencing GPS interference in the area, which can be caused by intentional jamming or atmospheric conditions, though the exact cause remains unknown.
K2 Airways, established in Pakistan in 2018, operates a single Boeing 737 aircraft to four destinations in Asia and the Middle East. The missing plane, which is 27 years old, was acquired by the airline in 2024.
Authorities Launch Investigation
The carrier stated: 'K2 Airways is fully cooperating with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and other government agencies. We continue to pray, earnestly, for the safety of our colleagues.'
Pakistan's aviation sector has experienced deadly crashes in recent years. In May 2020, Pakistan International Airlines Flight 8303 crashed near Karachi airport, killing 97 people on board and one person on the ground, with only two survivors. That accident was attributed to engine failure.
The search for the missing aircraft and its crew continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
