Wizz Air has introduced a new twilight bag drop service at London Luton Airport, enabling passengers to check in their luggage the night before an early morning flight. This initiative aims to streamline the travel experience for those with early departures.
Service Details and Operational Hours
Launched on Monday, 16 February, the service operates daily from 9pm to 2am. It is specifically designed for passengers booked on flights departing at 9am or earlier the following day. By allowing luggage drop-off the night before, Wizz Air seeks to reduce morning congestion and stress for travellers.
Airport and Airline Perspectives
Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport, commented on the launch. "The introduction of another twilight check-in service will ensure even more passengers can begin their journeys with maximum efficiency and ease," she stated. Armstrong highlighted that this move is part of ongoing investments in passenger facilities, new retail and dining options, and efforts to achieve record customer satisfaction scores.
Wizz Air joins easyJet and Jet2 in offering such a service. Jet2 implemented its twilight bag drop last year across 11 British airports, though it requires passengers to drop bags before 9pm. easyJet provides a similar service across the UK and select European airports, with varying qualifying flight times and drop-off windows.
Context and Expansion at Luton Airport
All three airlines operate from London Luton Airport, one of the UK's busiest aviation hubs. This year, Luton will see the launch of new low-cost routes, enhancing its connectivity. From 29 March, Wizz Air will initiate flights to Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia, and Seville. Additionally, Jet2 will introduce five new routes to Corfu, Kos, Preveza, Skiathos, and Menorca starting 21 May.
The twilight bag drop service reflects a growing trend among airlines to improve passenger convenience, particularly for early morning travellers. As competition intensifies, such initiatives are becoming key differentiators in the low-cost carrier market.
