Police Scotland has recovered a body in the search for missing Greenock pensioner Andrew Cochrane. The body of a man was found in a wooded area near Bridgend Road at around 1.05pm on Wednesday, July 1. Formal identification has yet to take place, but officers have informed the family of the 68-year-old, who was reported missing after he was last seen in the town almost a week ago. Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Last Seen Near Lady Octavia Sports Centre
Andrew was last seen on Bridgend Road, close to the Lady Octavia Sports Centre, at around 9.45am on Thursday, June 25. CCTV released during the search showed him earlier that morning leaving a nearby shop holding a receipt. At the time, he was wearing a blue North Face T-shirt and dark-coloured trousers. Officers had carried out extensive enquiries and appealed for residents to check private CCTV and dashcam footage as concerns grew for Andrew's welfare. Police said it was out of character for him not to contact his family.
