E-fit released after woman raped in Clapham alleyway

Detectives are appealing for public help to identify a man after a woman in her 20s was allegedly raped in an alleyway off Clapham High Street, a popular nightlife hotspot in south London. The Metropolitan Police have released an E-fit image of the suspect.

Incident timeline and location

The alleged attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 14. The victim had been enjoying a night out on Clapham High Street with a friend. Around 4am, while outside a bar, she met the suspect and accompanied him to a nearby supermarket. After leaving the supermarket, the two friends separated. The victim was then allegedly taken down an alleyway and raped between 4am and 6am, according to police. She managed to fight off the attacker, causing him to flee.

Suspect description

The suspect is described as a man of Middle Eastern or southern European appearance, approximately 5ft 11ins tall, with a thin build, thick eyebrows, a thick beard, and black hair. At the time of the alleged assault, he was wearing a plain white top, jeans, and trainers.

Police appeal and victim support

Detective Constable Kay Paterson, leading the investigation, said: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous bravery, coming forward in the wake of an appalling attack. She continues to be supported by specially-trained officers.” DC Paterson added: “The rape took place in the early hours on Clapham High Street. The suspect and the victim moved between multiple premises – including a pub and supermarket, and we are eager to speak to anyone who has any recollection of seeing them. Tackling sexual offending is a top priority for the Met, and we are releasing this e-fit to assist witnesses, or anyone who may recognise the suspect.”

How to provide information

Police are urging anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 4819/26FEB. They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who saw the suspect and victim together in the hours leading up to the attack, or who recognises the man in the E-fit.
