A man remains in a critical condition in hospital following a suspected arson attack in Stockton, with five people arrested in connection with the incident.
Fire in Norfolk Street
Emergency services were called to Norfolk Street, Stockton, at around 11:20 PM on Friday, May 22, after reports of a house fire. A man was discovered at the scene and taken to hospital, where he continues to fight for his life in a critical condition. Two other individuals received treatment at the scene from emergency responders and are now recovering. Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed that two dogs were also rescued from the property.
Arrests Made
Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident: three women aged 21, 32, and 52, and two men aged 26 and 29. All have been released on bail with conditions while further enquiries are conducted. An investigation is ongoing, and officers are appealing for witnesses and information.
Senior Investigating Officer Superintendent Deb Fenny said: "We're keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity before or after the fire. Please report information to us – no matter how insignificant it may seem, it could prove vital to our ongoing enquiries. We are also urging residents to review any available CCTV, doorbell footage, dashcam or other recordings which may assist the investigation."
Fire Brigade Response
Four fire engines from Middlesbrough, Stockton, and Thornaby stations attended the blaze. Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed that the downstairs living room sustained 60% fire damage. Crews remained at the scene until 12:30 AM the following morning.
