The explosion took place in a crowded market area, with the blast causing significant damage to nearby shops and vehicles. Among the deceased were two traffic police officers and a woman. Local authorities confirmed that the bomb was attached to a rickshaw, which was detonated remotely.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion is likely to fall on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an ally of Afghanistan's Taliban government. The TTP has intensified its campaign against Pakistani security forces in recent months.

This incident comes just days after 15 police officers were killed in a suicide bombing and gun assault in the nearby Bannu district.
