Wendy Osefo, a star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Potomac, and her husband Eddie have been arrested on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Maryland announced the arrests on Friday.
The charges stem from a reported burglary at the couple's home in April 2024. The Osefos claimed that approximately 80 items of jewellery, luxury goods, clothing, and shoes worth over $200,000 were stolen while they were on vacation. However, an investigation revealed that more than $20,000 of the allegedly stolen items had been returned to retailers by the couple.
Detectives also discovered that Wendy had been seen on social media wearing a diamond anniversary band that she had claimed was stolen. According to bail memos, the same band was listed on two separate insurance claims with different companies.
The couple, both 41, were indicted on Thursday and arrested, but were released after posting a $50,000 bond each. In a statement, a representative for the Osefos said they are 'back home safely with their family and in good spirits' and 'look forward to their day in court'. They have asked for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process.
Wendy Osefo has been a cast member on The Real Housewives of Potomac since 2020 and is also a political commentator and former lecturer at Johns Hopkins School of Education. Eddie Osefo is an attorney and founder of a cannabis company called Happy Eddie.
