Three More Suspects Detained in London Antisemitic Ambulance Arson Case
London's Metropolitan Police Service has made three further arrests in connection with the suspected antisemitic arson attack that resulted in the torching of four ambulances owned by a Jewish charity. The incident, which occurred in the Golders Green neighbourhood of north London, is being treated as a hate crime by counterterrorism investigators.
Details of the Latest Arrests
The three new suspects include two British men, aged 20 and 19, along with a 17-year-old boy who holds dual British and Pakistani nationality. All three have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. This brings the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with the attack to five, following the earlier arrests of two men aged 45 and 47, who have since been released on bail.
Nature of the Attack and Investigation
The blaze, which took place on March 23, completely destroyed four ambulances belonging to Hatzola Northwest, a volunteer organisation that provides emergency medical care in the area. The fire caused oxygen cylinders inside the vehicles to explode, resulting in broken windows in a nearby apartment block. Golders Green is known for its significant Jewish population, adding to the community's concerns.
Counterterror police are leading the investigation, examining the incident as an antisemitic hate crime. Authorities are looking into a claim of responsibility by a group with potential links to Iran, although they have not officially classified the attack as an act of terrorism at this stage.
Police Response and Community Reassurance
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of counterterror policing, emphasised the ongoing efforts to address the attack. "Since this appalling attack last week, we have been working continuously to investigate and identify those responsible," she stated. "We know concern among the Jewish community remains high, but I hope these arrests show that we are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice."
