A 30-year-old woman described as an “amazing mum” who would “light up every room she walked into” has been named as the victim of a fatal shooting outside a bar in Sheffield.
Incident Details
Shanice Brookes was shot near the One Four One bar on West Street shortly before 2.45am on Monday. Police have stated that she was an innocent bystander and not the intended target of the attack.
Officers were called to the scene, a busy area known for its bars and restaurants, where Ms Brookes was found with serious injuries. She was taken to hospital but later died.
Family Tribute
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ms Brookes’ family paid tribute to her, saying: “She could light up every room she walked into with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul and magical aura. Shanice made people feel loved, safe and valued simply by being herself.”
The family added: “Shanice had the biggest heart and the kind of energy you could never forget. She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and godmother, as well as being an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her.”
Ms Brookes lived in Sheffield, worked for a local charity, and was completing a university degree. Her family noted she was due to graduate, reflecting her determination and ambition.
Police Investigation
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a white Audi believed to be involved in the incident. They are appealing for witnesses who were on West Street or Eldon Street in the early hours of Monday to come forward.
Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman near Stockport in Greater Manchester, and another 30-year-old man in Sheffield.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: “Today, we have formally identified Shanice as the victim... Shanice was a young woman who was in the prime of her life and was simply enjoying a night out in the city centre over the bank holiday weekend.”
He added: “This incident lays bare the devastation gun crime causes within families and communities... The reckless actions of others have taken her life away from her and the sad reality is that any of us, or our loved ones, could have been the victim of this senseless incident.”
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
