Armed police officers shot a fleeing motorist who drove his car directly at them after he failed to stop, according to Greater Manchester Police. The incident occurred in Whitefield, Bury, when officers attempted to stop the vehicle.
Details of the Incident
The driver fled the scene, prompting a firearms officer to discharge a shot. The driver sustained an injury to his arm and was taken to hospital. The injury has been described as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. No police officers were injured during the incident.
Arrest and Investigation
A 20-year-old white British man has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. Forensic officers attended the scene, where a white car was seen boxed in by unmarked vehicles behind a police cordon. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Detective Superintendent Joe Harrop from the Serious Crime Division stated: 'We know people in the area will be concerned by what has happened and the visible increase in police officers in the local area as our investigations continue. Thankfully no members of the wider public, or officers were harmed in the incident this afternoon and we thank people for their patience while we remain at the scene.
