Armed police were called to a street near a school in Salford on Tuesday morning after reports of a man carrying a knife. Officers responded to the incident on Liverpool Road in the Cadishead area at around 9am.
Body-worn camera footage from Greater Manchester Police shows the moment the suspect was Tasered and fell to the ground while appearing to hold a knife. Shouts of 'put it down' can be heard before the man was detained.
A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and remains in custody for questioning. It is believed a nearby school may have followed lockdown procedures, though this has not been confirmed.
Detective Chief Superintendent Neil Jones said: “Public safety remains our absolute priority. Today’s incident demonstrates both the effectiveness of rapid public reporting and the professionalism of our officers.” He noted that the Taser 10, used for the first time by GMP, provided a critical less-lethal option.
Police said the Taser was deployed in line with specialist training to ensure the suspect was safely detained. Officers will remain in the area to provide a visible presence. Anyone with information is asked to contact GMP on 101 quoting log 738 of 02/06/2026.
