British Army Soldier Jailed for Vicious Unprovoked Attack on Homeless Woman

A British Army soldier has been sentenced to six months in prison after launching a vicious and unprovoked attack on a defenceless homeless woman in Salisbury city centre. Aaron Nomicas, aged 20, violently kicked the vulnerable woman in the face as she was sheltering for the night with her dog.

The Cowardly Assault in Market Walk

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 17, at approximately 3am, in Market Walk - a covered stretch of shops and restaurants in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The victim, a woman in her 50s described as incredibly vulnerable, was simply trying to keep warm while lying in a walkway with her dog Lance when Nomicas and his group of friends appeared.

CCTV footage reveals the disturbing sequence of events. Nomicas can be seen walking with three other young men and two young women, one of whom he had his arm around, as the homeless woman sits cross-legged with her head bowed to the ground. Without warning or provocation, the soldier suddenly runs at the woman and kicks her with such force that her head violently flings backward.

Aftermath and Arrest

Following the initial assault, the victim called Nomicas a coward - a description that clearly struck a nerve. The depraved criminal attempted to run at her again before his friends finally intervened and restrained him. The young woman he was walking with appeared unphased by the random act of violence, linking arms with him and continuing to walk while other members of the group seemed oblivious to what had just occurred.

The victim suffered facial injuries that are fortunately not believed to be life-changing. The attack was reported to police the same day, and Nomicas, from Larkhill, Wiltshire, was quickly identified and arrested through swift investigative work.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Nomicas appeared at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on March 6, where he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court sentenced him to six months in prison for what was described as a vicious attack on a vulnerable member of the community.

Sergeant Joshua Bliss from the South Criminal Investigation Department commented on the case, stating: "This was a highly impactful case - the victim is incredibly vulnerable and had no way of protecting herself, or escaping from, this vicious and unprovoked attack. She was sat in Salisbury city centre with her dog, Lance, minding her own business and simply trying to keep warm."

The sergeant added: "In the victim's account, she describes the offender as a 'coward'. This is a sentiment shared by those involved in the investigation who saw the CCTV footage showing the attack. This court result should send a clear message - if you are someone who preys on the most vulnerable and defenceless members of our community, we will swiftly track you down and we will bring you to justice."

Military Connection and Response

Nomicas had joined the British Army just last year, adding a troubling dimension to the case of a trained soldier attacking a defenceless civilian. The Ministry of Defence has been approached for comment regarding the conduct of one of their personnel and the implications for military discipline and public trust.

The investigation demonstrated remarkable efficiency, with CID detectives and neighbourhood officers identifying and locating the offender within just two hours of the investigation commencing. This rapid response highlights the seriousness with which authorities treated this attack on a vulnerable member of society.
