The incident occurred when a female passenger began screaming, shouting, swearing, and attempting to hit cabin crew, prompting flight staff to consider diverting the aircraft.
How the Situation Was De-escalated
After James requested that the woman be moved next to them, Phoenix actively engaged her by singing 'Dance Monkey', showing his football cards, and asking about her family. This interaction gradually de-escalated her behaviour, preventing a costly flight diversion and allowing the journey to Manchester to continue for the remaining three and a half hours without further incident.
Recognition and Aftermath
Upon arrival, the disruptive passenger was taken into police custody. James and Phoenix were thanked by the pilot and subsequently awarded free flight vouchers by Jet2 in recognition of their actions.
