CCTV Shows Unprovoked Elbow Attack on Woman in Cork

Disturbing new CCTV footage has been released, capturing the moment a woman was brutally knocked unconscious in an apparently unprovoked assault by a male passerby in Cork City, Ireland. The video evidence shows the shocking incident, which occurred in the early hours of a Sunday morning last year, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

Graphic Footage of the Assault

The footage, now public as part of a Garda appeal, depicts the attacker, clad in a distinctive green and black North Face jacket, casually approaching a group of women on Oliver Plunkett Street with his hands in his pockets. Without warning or provocation, the man delivers a forceful elbow strike to the victim's head, flooring her instantly. He then continues walking down the street as if nothing had transpired, displaying a chilling nonchalance.

Severe Injuries and Immediate Aftermath

The vicious blow rendered the woman unconscious on the pavement at approximately 2:50 a.m. One friend rushed to her aid, while another appears to have confronted the retreating assailant. The attack resulted in a fractured orbital bone—the bone surrounding the eye socket—requiring subsequent hospital treatment for the victim.

Garda Greg Freegrove, speaking to RTÉ, described the incident as a "serious assault" that took place on November 23rd. "The man we're looking to identify is here in the centre of the screen, wearing a green and black North Face jacket," Freegrove stated. "As he walked past a group of people on Oliver Plunkett Street, he lifts his elbow and hits a woman in the head, knocking her unconscious. He quickly made his way along Oliver Plunkett Street, away from the scene, and the victim was left with a broken orbital bone in her right eye socket."

Garda Appeal for Witnesses

An Garda Síochána are urgently seeking public assistance to locate the perpetrator. The attacker is described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a stocky build, dark facial hair, and believed to be aged between his late twenties and early-to-mid thirties. His most identifiable feature is the green and black North Face jacket he wore during the assault.

Garda Freegrove emphasized: "He's believed to be in his late twenties to mid-thirties, around 5ft8 in height, and he had a stocky build, dark hair and beard. As I said, he is wearing that green and black North Face jacket, and we're asking viewers to give us a call if they can help [with the investigation]."

Context of Violence on Oliver Plunkett Street

This alarming attack follows another recent assault on the same street earlier this month, where a man in his 40s was hospitalised. Gardaí are investigating both incidents and continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact An Garda Síochána. Details can be provided by calling the Garda Confidential Line at (+353) 1800 666 111 or by visiting any Garda station in person.
