A man has been left furious after his neighbour threatened to kick his dog because of the route he takes for walks. The anonymous Reddit user said he and his partner moved into a new apartment last year and got a puppy in June. The neighbour, who lives on the ground floor, became irate when the dog urinated on the grass outside her windows.
The man said the neighbour demanded he stop the dog from peeing near her apartment, including the grass by the staircase and parking lot. When he refused, she escalated her behaviour, yelling at them and threatening to put dog poop on the staircase. She then threatened to kick the dog if she saw it again.
The man contacted the apartment management company, which confirmed he was in the right. He is now working with the company and the police to stop the harassment. Commenters on Reddit supported him, advising him to record evidence and file a formal complaint.
Under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, leaving dog fouling in public areas is an offence. The Litter (Animal Droppings) Order 1991 also requires local authorities to keep certain areas clear of dog faeces. Failure to clean up after a dog can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £100, or up to £1,000 in court.
