Former Dreamboy Faces Murder Charges After Girlfriend's Death in France
French prosecutors have confirmed that George Goodayle, a 47-year-old British national and former performer with the male strip show the Dreamboys, has been charged with murdering his girlfriend at their rural home in southwestern France. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and drawn attention from international media.
Details of the Alleged Shooting
According to official statements from the Angoulême public prosecutor's office, Goodayle turned himself in at the Confolens gendarmerie on the morning of March 16, 2026. He reportedly confessed to shooting his partner, 49-year-old Jayne Gregory, with a shotgun the previous evening. Officers responding to the scene in Brillac, a commune in the Charente department, found Gregory deceased with two bullet wounds.
Forensic teams and a magistrate were dispatched to the property, where they seized a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the incident. During police interviews, Goodayle suggested the shooting might have been accidental, though prosecutors have proceeded with formal charges of spousal murder.
Background of the Couple
The couple, both in their late 40s, had been dating since June of the previous year and reportedly enjoyed a holiday together in the Pyrenees mountains in February. Friends of Jayne Gregory describe her as originally from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, who moved to France around late 2020 or early 2021 "to escape England and start a new life."
One friend told media outlets: "She loved animals, especially horses and dogs. She always had nice clothes and lived a flash lifestyle. She was very outgoing - the life of the party - and very generous. She ended up moving to France to get away and start fresh."
Another friend added: "She seemed quite an outgoing person, a typical northerner from Doncaster. She appeared to have many friends in France and was described as a beautiful woman full of life."
Legal Proceedings and Detention
Prosecutor Benoît Bernard stated that Goodayle, who has lived in Brillac since 2016 and has no declared occupation, was taken into police custody immediately after his confession. Following interrogation, he was presented before a judge and formally indicted for the murder of a spouse.
The accused has been placed in pre-trial detention as the investigation continues. The rural commune of Brillac, part of the scenic Charente Limousine area, is typically known as a peaceful haven for outdoor enthusiasts, making this violent incident particularly jarring for residents.
Social Media History and Relationship
Historical social media posts reveal Goodayle's past with the Dreamboys, with him writing in March 2011: "I'm gorgeous George from the world famous male strip show the Dreamboys." He frequently posted about performances in London's West End and Manchester.
In October of last year, Gregory shared a affectionate image of the couple on social media, wishing Goodayle a happy birthday while referencing his entertainment background. She wrote: "I'd like to wish George Goodayle a big fat happy birthday. This has been the most unexpected summer ever... My very own dream boy and that you are."
Friends indicate that Gregory had previously lived with another boyfriend in France before that relationship ended. Goodayle subsequently moved to France to live with her in their remote rural property. The investigation remains ongoing as French authorities continue to gather evidence and build their case against the former entertainer.
