Five people have lost their lives after a small aircraft crashed near Austin, Texas, on Thursday night. The incident occurred in Wimberley, a town roughly 40 miles southwest of Austin, as confirmed by Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra.

Details of the crash

According to Becerra, the plane, a Cessna 421C, was traveling at a high speed when it went down around 11 p.m. local time. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.

“Based on current findings, there is no indication of a mid-air collision. A second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels,” Becerra stated.

Investigation underway

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will lead the investigation into the crash.
