A 15-year-old girl remains in a critical condition following a water incident at Formby beach on Monday, Merseyside Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the popular beach at approximately 3.30pm on the bank holiday Monday, according to a force spokesman.
The teenager was subsequently rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where she is currently being treated and remains in a critical condition.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall issued an appeal for information, stating: “We know that Formby beach was exceptionally busy on bank holiday Monday but I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information which could assist our inquiries to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
He added: “Our officers and I would also like to offer our gratitude to the members of the public who came to the assistance of the 15-year-old girl and her family during such tragic circumstances on Formby beach.”
At this stage, police believe the girl encountered difficulties while in the water, prompting members of the public to intervene and provide aid.
This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
