Homeless Man Charged with Rape of Woman in London Park

A 40-year-old homeless man has been charged with two counts of rape after a woman was allegedly attacked in a north-west London park. The incident occurred in Byron Park, Harrow, with police called just after 5pm on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the victim is being supported by specialist officers. Anojan Ganesalingham, of no fixed address, was arrested in the Harrow area on Saturday and subsequently charged.

Detective Inspector Mitesh Mulji of the Met’s North West Command Unit said: 'We are committed to tackling the scourge of sexual violence against women and girls. This was an isolated incident, but we are aware of the concern that it will cause in our local community.'

Ganesalingham appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Harrow Crown Court on June 1. Police have increased patrols in Byron Park and the surrounding area.
