A house in Dalkeith, Midlothian, has been severely damaged after its roof caught fire during thunderstorms that swept across Scotland in the early hours of Friday, June 26.
Firefighters Respond to Pheasant Grove Blaze
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received an alarm at 3:24am and dispatched four fire engines and a height appliance to the property on Pheasant Grove. At the height of the incident, all resources were deployed to tackle the flames. Crews managed to extinguish the fire by 10:37am, though the property sustained significant damage.
No injuries were reported. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 3.24am on Friday, 26 June, to reports of a dwelling fire on Pheasant Grove, Dalkeith. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a specialist resource to the scene. There were no casualties and crews left the scene at 8am after ensuring the area was made safe."
Thunderstorms and Weather Warning
The fire occurred as the area experienced thunderstorms throughout the early hours. The Met Office had issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain covering most of Scotland, excluding Shetland, effective until midnight on Friday. Forecasters warned of a small chance of flooding for homes and businesses, as well as potential travel disruption from storms and lightning strikes.
Residents took to social media to describe the intensity of the storm. One person described an "absolutely tremendous storm over Edinburgh," while another called it "spectacular." The storms followed days of scorching weather across the region.
