A 26-year-old Chinese man died after a world-famous rock archway in Malta collapsed onto his jet ski, moments after an American tourist jumped off the formation. The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 7pm local time near the island of Comino.

The arch, known as the Kissing Elephants, collapsed when a 32-year-old American man jumped from it into the sea. Large rocks fell onto the jet ski as the victim rode underneath, pinning his body to the seabed. A 27-year-old Chinese woman on the same jet ski suffered serious injuries and was taken to Gozo General Hospital, where doctors said her injuries were not life-threatening. The American was rescued by a passing boat but did not require hospital treatment.

Popular Tourist Spot

The Kissing Elephants formation is located on Comino, a small island northwest of Malta's mainland. The site was popular with tourists who rented jet skis and jumped off the arch into the water. The island also features the Blue Lagoon, a famous swimming spot visited by thousands annually.

According to the Times of Malta, a Maltese magistrate has opened an inquiry into the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the tragedy, which has raised questions about the safety of jumping from natural rock formations.
