Utah Real Estate Agent Kouri Richins Sentenced for Husband's Fentanyl Murder
Kouri Richins Sentenced for Husband's Fentanyl Murder

Kouri Richins once seemed to have it all: her own real estate business, a loving husband and three beautiful children. But beneath the surface, this picture-perfect life was far from what it seemed — and this outwardly doting wife was plotting the sinister murder of the father of her children.

The Crime

On March 4, 2022, Richins killed her husband Eric Richins by giving him a Moscow Mule cocktail poisoned with a lethal dose of fentanyl inside the family home in Kamas, Utah. In an explosive trial this March, jurors heard how the real estate agent had been motivated by a desire to get her hands on his $4 million estate and to escape their marriage in order to start a new life with her handyman lover.

Verdict and Sentencing

It took just three hours for the jury to return a verdict of guilty on all five felony charges: aggravated murder, aggravated attempted murder, two counts of insurance fraud and forgery. On Wednesday — on what should have been Eric's 44th birthday — Richins will return to Summit County Court in Park City for her sentencing. She faces 25 years to life or life in prison without the possibility of parole on the most severe charge.
