Liverpool City Centre Sealed Off in Major Police Incident

Multiple streets in Liverpool city centre have been sealed off by police following a major incident. Large parts of the Cavern Quarter are cordoned off, including Button Street, Mathew Street, Victoria Street and part of Whitechapel.

Merseyside Police confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate. The arrest came after reports that another man was threatened with a gun during a fight in the early hours of Monday, April 6.

Police were called at around 4.45am following reports of a fight between two men near Clayton Square. It was reported that one man threatened the other with a firearm. However, there is no suggestion that a firearm was used, and no injuries have been reported.

A separate police cordon has also sealed off part of Ranelagh Street, though it is unclear if the cordons are linked. Police officers are standing guard at multiple points inside the cordon, and refuse collectors have been turned away from the area.
